KOLPLAW TRIAL TEAM
Results Through Relentless Advocacy
“A Career Built on Trials. When the Stakes are High, Trial Experience Matters.”
Peter began the firm with over 24 years of trial experience as a prosecutor and litigator. As a prosecutor, he made local and worldwide news for successfully prosecuting almost every type of crime—from simple gun possessions to internet, insurance, and immigration fraud, to complex wiretap white-collar and organized crime cases. It is unique for a criminal defense attorney to have the range of prosecutorial experience from both a city and state prosecutor.
He served as an Assistant Attorney General of New York State from 2007–2013 in the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau. His main case, a New York Law Journal headline, was a large-scale investigation involving multiple wiretaps and a long-term grand jury that led to the arrest of over 24 defendants, including several doctors and lawyers, in a large medical and personal injury scam.
Prior to that, he served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Rackets Division of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office from 2000–2007. Overall, as a prosecutor, he was lead counsel in over 25 felony trials involving white-collar crime, insurance fraud, consumer fraud, arson, and enterprise corruption.
As a litigator at Kagan Lubic Lepper, a Manhattan-based firm, he focused on derivative actions, construction litigation, real estate, and Mitchell-Lama/HDFC Housing law. He now brings all of that experience to his criminal defense firm, allowing him to see every legal nuance and develop unique avenues for defense.
Peter is passionate about his charity work and serves on the Board of Friends of the Children (FOTC). ESQUIRE magazine recognized FOTC as “the country’s first-ever paid mentoring organization” and featured it as a “great idea in mentoring” in its October 2014 “89 Ways to Change a Life” issue. FOTC has also received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the organization’s highest ranking.
Peter also worked as an overseas research assistant in the British Parliament for Gary Waller, M.P.
He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two sons, who provide the smile behind his smile.
He completed an Ironman Triathlon in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in under 13 hours on September 25, 2022.
