About Peter Kolp, P.C.

Peter began the firm with over 24 years of trial experience as a prosecutor and litigator. As a prosecutor, he made local and worldwide news for successfully prosecuting almost every type of crime from simple gun possessions to internet, insurance and immigration fraud to complex wiretap white collar and organized crime cases. It is unique for a criminal defense attorney to have the range of prosecutorial experience from both a city and state prosecutor.

He served as an Assistant Attorney General of New York State from 2007-2013 in the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau. His main case, a New York Law Journal headline, was a large-scale investigation, involved multiple wiretaps and a long-term grand jury that led to the arrest of over 24 defendants, several doctors and lawyers in a large medical and personal injury scam.  Prior to that he served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney in the Rackets Division of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office from 2000-2007.  Overall, as a prosecutor, he was lead counsel in over 25 felony trials involving white-collar crime, insurance fraud, consumer fraud, arson, and enterprise corruption.  As a litigator at Kagan Lubic Lepper, a Manhattan based firm, he focused on derivative actions, construction litigation, real estate and Mitchell-Lama/HDFC Housing law. He now brings all of that experience to his criminal defense firm which allows him to see all the legal nuances of each case and come up with unique avenues for the defense.

Peter is passionate about his charity work on the Board of Friends of the Children (“FOTC”).  ESQUIRE magazine recently recognized FOTC’s unique position as “the country’s first-ever paid mentoring organization” as a “great idea in mentoring” in the magazine’s October 2014 “89 Ways to Change a Life” issue. In addition, they recently received a 4-star ranking from Charity Navigator, the highest overall ranking from America’s largest independent charity evaluator. http://friendsnewyork.org
